Disaster Recovery

SI Systems provides 4 levels of protection against disasters.

Level 1 Protection:

All of SI's servers are sold with next-day on-site hardware support, redundant RAID hard drive technology, and two backup systems, each performing a complete Master night backup. The maximum exposure for data loss is one day, if off-site backup rotation prodedures are followed.

Level 2 Protection (Core-Spare-Emergency Back up Server):

A lower cost "Cold-Spare" backup server, located on or off site, such as at another branch, may be utilized in an emergency until the primary server is repaired or replaced. The cold-spare server is a short-term emergency solution to support core users and core functions for a few days until the primary server is back on line. Since it requires restoring current databases from backup, the maximum exposure for data loss is one day, if off-site backup rotation procedures are followed.

Level 3 Protection (Warm-Spare Emergency Backup Server):

A full-size twin of the primary server, a "Warm-Spare" Backup server, located off-site, would be utilized in an emergency until the primary server is repaired or replaced. This location may be at another branch or anywhere in the world where a constant Internet connection is available.

Each morning, the database on the Warm-Spare are copies of the batabases on the main server. Users can login and begin using the warm spare as soon as the main server goes down. Again there is a maximum exposure of one day.

Level 4 Protection - COR (Comprehensive Operational Readiness):

A full-size twin of the primary server, a "Hot-Spare" Backup server, located off-site, would be utilized in an emergency until the primary server is repaired or replaced. This location may be at another branch or anywhere in the world where constant Internet connection is available.

There is no data loss and users can decide to switch to the hot spare machine and continue to work.
